Pokémon GO Type Chart - Strength, Weakness, And Effectiveness For All Types Explained

Pokémon Go’s types are identical to those in the main Pokémon games, but their effects on battles are slightly different. To put it simply, things like effective or resistant attacks have slightly distinct multipliers than in the main Pokémon games. There are certain types for each Pokémon creature and each of their moves. In terms of attack and defense, each type possesses a number of strengths and weaknesses. If you are stronger, your damage will be quite effective, and if you are weaker, it won’t be. To maximize your damage output, it’s crucial to get the 18 Pokémon types because in some cases, your attack can have no impact at all.

Yet with 18 distinct types of Pokémon present, it can be exceedingly challenging to remember every single one of them, along with their strength and weakness. Therefore, we have produced the following Pokémon type chart. Continue reading for a handy guide of Pokémon types, weaknesses, strengths, and much more.

Pokémon Go Type Chart – Strengths, Weaknesses And Effectiveness

Every type of Pokemon in Pokemon Go has four different relationships with the other types that each and every trainer must be mindful of. And that’s:

  1. Strong Against: Attacks from the listed type against the type mentioned here will do greater damage to your opponent, as depicted on the type chart as Strong Vs. It is ‘Super Effective’.
  1. Weak Against: Attacks from the mentioned type against these types will deal less damage to the opponent, which is represented here as Weak Vs. It is ‘Not very effective’.
  1. Resistance: With resistance listed as resist, taking attacks of this type will do you far less damage.
  1. Vulnerable: Your type’s weaknesses are vulnerable. These types of attacks do more damage.

A total of 18 different Pokemon types are listed in the table below. The type of the clitters is represented in the first column, second column shows strong against , third one shows weaknesses and fourth columns represent the type’s resistance and the fifth one shows vulnerability.

Changes To The Type Effectiveness In Pokemon GO-

Changes To The Type Effectiveness In Pokemon GO-

Pokémon Go, unlike the main series, does not also have Type immunities. The following immunities have been removed:

  • Flying immune to Ground
  • Ground immune to Electric
  • Normal and Fighting immune to Ghost
  • Ghost immune to Normal and Fighting
  • Steel immune to Poison
  • Fairy immune to Dragon
  • Dark immune to Psychic

They initially functioned the same as simple resistances rather than providing complete immunity to damage. The defending Pokémon that would ordinarily be immune now only takes 0.39 times as much damage as it normally would, forming a new tier of resistance. In other words, type immunity generally reduces the amount of damage taken to about a third.

The status of very effective, not very effective, immune, and doubly effective types of attacks is fully explained below.

  • Not Very Effective: Inflicts 0.625x damage, whilst the main series deals 0.5x damage.
  • Super Effective: Inflicts 1.6x damage, though it deals 2x damage in the main series.
  • Immunity: Inflict 0.39x damage, in the main series it deals 0 damage.
  • Doubly Effective: Inflicts 2.56x damage, whilst the main series deals 4x damage.

To put it another way, the most recent changes to Type effectiveness get them substantially closer to the multipliers in the main games, but they are still not totally in line with them. But, it does increase the significance of Type effectiveness, making it all the more crucial to understand those matchups if at all possible.

Changes To Pokémon Types In Mainline Pokémon Games Over Time-

Most of the type chart has stayed consistent over the years, with a few changes.

Generation 6- (Pokémon X and Y)-

  • Fairy typing was added (legacy Pokémon like Jigglypuff, Marill, and Cottonee now have the fairy typing).
  • Moves of the Ghost and Dark types are made neutral against Steel (formerly ‘not very effective’).

Generation 2 (Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal)-

  • Dark & Steel types added( Steel typing added to Magnemite going forward.)
  • Moves of the Bug type have been ineffective against Poison (formerly super-effective).
  • Poison-type moves rendered ineffective against Bug (formerly super-effective).
  • Ice types were designed to be ineffective against fire (formerly neutral).
  • A programming bug that rendered the Ghost-type move ‘Lick’ ineffective against Psychic Pokémon has been corrected (it should have been super-effective).
